I review a lot of music that incorporates "pre-modern" elements for Sepiachord.com, but rarley have I gotten to experience any thing as pre-modern as the tuvan throat singing* performed by vocalist Soriah.
Working with insturmentalist Ashkelon Sain, Soriah has created a post-electronic ritual soundtrack, a piece that casts a contemporary eye on a distant (possibly mythical) past to evoke a startling dreamscape.
Often the goal of spiritual music is to transform or transmute. While I don't feeling changed by listening to "Atlan" I certainly feel *transported*, shifted to another reality conjured by two skilled sonic craftsmen. And it's good for the soul to travel, even if the journey is primarily an audio one.
