Eli August has a voice like no other, and I do mean that in a good way. He sounds like
a man for whom pain is not a stranger, yet he is able to create beautiful music. He is able to cause his guitar to reveal its soul, and his blend of accompanying instruments could not be more perfect. Eli’s music is rich, yet uncluttered. It is not full of synthesized sounds and
chaotic rhythms. It harkens back to a simpler time, and speaks directly to the heart.
With relatively few words, Eli reveals a tormented history that is tragic, yet common, and its complexity is veneered with a facade of simplicity.
The album could not be more appropriately named. Let This House Burn Slowly is a walking-paced
album that allows the listener time to pause and reflect. It beautifully bares a broken heart and
exposes its slow exsanguination.
