The Crux play (gloriously) rough-around-the-edges-americana with a spunky attitude and a protesters soul.
While they're obviously rooted in politics and do-it-yourself/screw-the-man culture they never get trapped in any post-hippie jamband tedium. Their attitude carries them through the folk, the blues, rootsy-country elements and even a bit of the ol folkpunk. There's some great stuff on "Now, Ferment" and I'm particulary found of "Louis XIV Loved His Legs".
The last third of the album does seem to get a bit slower and more Serious which makes it drag a bit, but that doesn't stop this from being a very solid release and some fun listening.
