I can't get enough of the self-titled EP from Dimestore Troubadours. These New Orleans boys play a suitably gritty version of the old-timey/evil vaudeville/jump(ed) blues/knifed-in-the-tinpan-alley/twisted jazz/etc sound that I had such a hard time describing to folks that I had to start calling it "sepiachord".
Five numbers is all we get here and it just isn't enough, it will only whet the appetite of anyone who loves Tom Waits or The Peculiar Pretzelmen. It's tough to pick a favorite track from these booze-soak ballads but I'll hae to go with "Wooden Kimono".
Recommended.
