Artist: The End Times Spasm Band

CD: "2"

Label: Chain Smoking Records

--

On their second short player The End Times Spams Band show that they can hold their own with any other band out there playing pre-big band jazz.

These five folks know from "hot" with their early blues-influenced take on hot jazz.
Lyndsy Rae's beautiful voice is clear, sharp and up front (as it should be) and Erik "Babyfingers" Stillabower knows his way around the banjo.
But what makes this set a winner is that the most of the tracks here are originals written by Bjart Helms (guitar, kazoo, vocals). I love it when a band throws their hat into the song-writing ring instead of relying on standards.

In fact the only bump on this fine collection is their take on the classic "Saint James Infirmary". The other songs seem to have so much energy and bounce that this number drags by comparison.

Favorite track: Betrand Hustle
