I'm willing to bet if we dug through the music collection of the lads in Falsetto Teeth we'd stumble upon releases by DEVO and Frank Zappa pretty quickly. On "Giraffes on Horseback Salads" it's as if the band took Smart-Ass New Wave and Virtuoso Freakout Jazz popped them into a blender and hit the button marked Post-Hardcore.
The end result is a carefully crafted, epic, ever-shifting melange that comes across like the brain-shredding soundtrack to a very weird, and distinctly dangerous, underground circus.
I've got to say I like it.
But it may be too epic for me.
The shortest song on this release is 7:12. While I like what these talented young fellows are doing I find my attention drifting around the 4 minute mark, even with all the with all the tempo and mood changes in each song.
In a way I wish there was "fragment" option on this CD, a way to break down the songs into the assorted movements and moods. Then I'd hit "shuffle" and listen to them reassemble endlessly.
