"Happy Madness" is an album that makes me smile, makes me feel bouncy, good inside.
The Gypsy Nomads manage to hitch their spunky/punky energy to a basic, almost old world approach to folk music and then tilt the whole thing to the side with a medieval lilt. It's like the secret history of fairy tales as told in your favorite corner bar at a surreal after hours party. The spareness of the instrumentation somehow glues this all together and makes the collection feel fresh.
This is pop music at it's best: fun, smart and something that can cheer you up when the day is dragging you down.
