On their second CD the Wingdale Community Singers show they've got a knack for songwriting and solid chops at crafting rootsy/folksy inspired music.
There aren't really any clunkers when it comes to the songs found on "Spirit Duplicator" the only real problem here is a matter of weight.
With the exception of the second track ("Rancho de la Muerta") all of the tunes have the same somber pace, a gravitas that bogs this collection down. Even the songs with a bit of humor to them, like "Montreal", come across has being Very Serious. The end result are songs I like but an album that I can only listen to in fits and starts as it gets me down after just a few numbers.
If you're willing to dissect this collection you're going to find some wonderful songs. I'm particularly drawn to the waltzy "Naked Goth Girls" and the gutsy religion-questioning almost gospel of "AWOL".
