Artist: Waves Under Water

CD: "A short presentation of..."

Label: Calorique Records

Reviewing this CD is a bit like trying to do it with one arm tied behind my back...

This isn't a full length but a three song sampler from Waves Under Water's upcoming "Serpents and the Tree" release. As such I have to assume that the complete debut will follow the mold presented here...

It's not that hard to do as all of these songs are of a type: the light EBM/future pop/dark(ish) wave that has ruled "goth/industrial" dancefloors for the last decade or so. These are good songs, not too heavy, not too fey. I could easily see myself dancing to them at one of the local spooky clubs. And, to be honest, I'm positively smitten with Angelica Segerback's vocals.

On the downside, other than their steampunk fashion, their isn't a lot to distinguish them from the all the other dancefloor doom merchants out there and I'm afraid they'll get lost in the shuffle. Perhaps the full length will feature a greater variety in song styles to give them an edge.
